It is a great honour to be the Ladies’ Captain for the 2024-25 season. I am the first Ladies’ Captain to come out of the Academy, the first I suspect of many. We are extremely lucky at Ellesborough Golf Club (EGC) to have a thriving Ladies section which is friendly, inclusive, fun and covers the full range of handicaps.
Ladies Competitions, for established golfers, take place regularly on a Tuesday morning and consist of a mixture of qualifiers and just plain fun! Throughout the week, including Saturdays, there are popular Ladies’ roll ups (9 & 18 holes). During the summer months there is a full programme of friendly matches with other clubs in the area and we have teams playing competitively in the Bucks leagues and competitions. There are many opportunities to play mixed golf in matches and knock out competitions.
For ladies new to golf or returning to the game, EGC Academy is a wonderful way to learn/refresh alongside others of similar ability. Academy members benefit from lessons from the Pro and use of the practice facilities. As members progress they can play the course accompanied by existing members who will help and guide them along the way. Academy membership is an excellent way to learn to play golf before obtaining full membership; fully endorsed by my own experience.
The charity I have chosen for this year is Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) Doctors Without Borders. I have personally supported MSF for many years. They are an International Humanitarian organisation providing medical care in over 70 countries They are independent and neutral. Experts working in highly insecure environments saving lives in conflict zones and natural disasters. MSF are there even when the cameras are not. They have a presence all over the world, in some places that are seemingly inaccessible.
The Ladies’ section at EGC is incredibly active and welcoming to new members. Please phone the office on 01296 622114 where you will be given further details on membership or the Academy. We would love to hear from you.
